I had to add some film grain to a composite a while back, and searched around on the web for a simple, yet good looking way to do this. I found a short explanation of a method, but no pictures or anything, so I decided I'd play around with it, and once I figured it out, I recorded a quick video tutorial so if somebody else was looking for the same thing they could hopefully find out how to do it.

This post comes to you on the beckoning of reader Anneli Oberman.      My last post about stupid Christmas carols was well received so I was encouraged and decided to do another, this time I'll be looking at the song Santa Claus is coming to town.   You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!   He's making a list,
And checking it twice,
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He sees you...

So I'm working on a fire mod for Minetest, and I've been wresting with formspecs for a while. I'm still no expert but something did just click in my mind, and 'cause I didn't notice it being documented very well any place, I thought I'd write about it.

Every formspec is just a layout, which is called and used by a function for the node/item. The best way to visualize a formspec is with a grid, like this.

I know it's been a long time since I've posted anything on my blog, but that's not why I'm posting something now. This post is for all the people that are upset that Mojang sold Minecraft to microsoft, which honestly if I was in his/their shoes I would have done the same thing. Didn't they get like 4.8 Billion, or was that million, either way, it's a goodly lump of cash.

Enough talk though, lets get to some show. Introducing Minetest.
Yes I know, it looks very much like Minecraft, and there is a...

In the course of two days, I made this model, probably about three hours total modeling time. I rendered it with Cycles, about 250 passes on this image. The model was modeled after a physical CD tower I have, 'cept mine is full of albums. It's been a while since I've put anything on Blendswap so it was good to get this uploaded.
The link for the download is right below the image.

I've had the privilege to work with a great team for the last eighteen months or so, and we've just released a feature length film entitled The Life of Christ. The film is a documentary of Jesus' life, huge surprise there. I got to travel far and wide, as I was the main actor, it was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. The film and all it's source are being released under a creative commons licenses, which will allow people to use the content in creating their own stuffs.
We're going to release the film as a torrent to make it easier...

Is there a certain youtube channel that you subscribe to, or don't, but you want to download there new videos when they come out, well then you're in luck, 'cause in this post I'm going to be telling you how to achieve this. You're going to need a few scripts, but don't worry its all painless, and if I could figure out on my own, you can figure it out with my instructions. ;)
First things first, you're going to need to have a script installed on your system called Youtube-dl. (Source and installation instructions here) and then you're going...

Firstly let me mention my system specs so you will know if this is going to help you should you be facing the same problem. I'm running Linux Mint 15, 64bit version, and have an Nvidia gtx 660Ti graphics card. My desktop environment is Cinnamon, version 1.8.8 but I expect it should be the same in future versions, though I haven't verified that.
I just recently got myself a new, to me, 23" monitor and decided that like any true geek I'd double up my screen space by using both the new and the old monitors. Plugging them both in was no trouble...

Reread that post title, let it sink in for a moment. Yes you read it right, in this enlightened year of 2014 we're still turning non-sexual objects into sexual ones, kinda sad isn't it. So how are we doing that, take a look.

Anything strike you odd about this garden sculpture? Reptiles, wearing bikinis. Notice the problem? Think about it, reptiles, they lay eggs, and they don't feed their young milk, and to top it off, they don't even have breasts. Yet some "genius" decided to put this...

My latest submission to Blendswap.com

I've created about thirty trim/moulding profiles, using curves in Blender, because I used curves you can easily trim up a room just by using a curve with interpolation set to vector and not have to worry about getting good corners with a mesh version.
I'm going to add more profiles to this blend as time goes on and I want to add some more textures and a little system for creating picture frames, right now I'm having problems with that, because of the rotation needing to be...
