Stupid Christmas Carols - I'll be Home for Christmas

I'm dreamin' tonight of a place I love
Even more than I usually do
And although I know it's a long road back
I promise you

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
If only in my dreams

You know what I'm dreaming of? a day, in the super distant future, in fact, a day that will sadly never happen, but a day in which all stupid Christmas carols are long forgotten and banished to a dark far away secluded island. The other thing I'm dreaming of, is a solid understanding of what this song is suppose to mean.
Tonight I dream of a place I love, and for some odd reason, that I can't explain, I love it more than I usually. WHY?!?!?! why is this person loving this place, more than normal? What is the reason? Please SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, enlighten me, PLEASE? 'cause I'm totally lost. This song doesn't say why. I hate songs that leave all these open questions, like if you are going to raise a question please answer it.
I know it's a long road back, but not any longer than it was going out, obviously, if anything the road back would be shorter as you can always travel in a more direct route, unless, this isn't an actual physical road, but rather the "road of life" Is it possible that the person singing this song is sitting behind bars someplace, in a dark, dank, and uncomfortable prison cell, serving their time for some heinous crime that they committed, I don't know, something like writing this song. Honestly if that was the case this song would make a lot more sense.
Assuming this person isn't locked up in high security they say they'll be home for Christmas, which is a nice thing to say, though if you don't actually intended to be home you shouldn't say it. It would appear as if they do mean it, as they say we can count on them, and they ask us to have snow and mistletoe, which side note, how are we suppose to control the weather and have snow. If it doesn't snow there isn't too much we can do about it.
Talking about Christmas eve, you'll find the singer "where the love light beams" totally not a vague location there. I suppose if I was in the slammer I might be ambiguous about my location as well. I don't understand the point of saying if only in my dreams, is this person not even planning on being home for Christmas, I mean, just be honest about it, if you aren't going to visit family don't tell them that you will. Sure there is always the possibility that they really want to be home, but for whatever reason they just can't get home, either because of health, bring in jail, serving their country in the military, or just broke, and have no means for getting home.
