Call Me Maybe

So another song has started playing at my workplace all to often, and this time it really has some serious problems, one of which is I can't even tell what it is suppose to mean, but here are the lyrics, my discussion underneath, as usual.

"Call Me Maybe"
I threw a wish in the well,
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell,
And now you're in my way

I'd trade my soul for a wish,
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this,
But now you're in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where do you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

It's hard to look right
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

You took your time with the call,
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all,
But still, you're in my way

I beg, and borrow and steal
Have foresight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it,
But it's in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

It's hard to look right
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad (bad, bad)

It's hard to look right
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe!

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that

So call me, maybe!
(C) Carly Rae Jepsen

So we have this girl who wished for a boy and evidently got him, only he wasn't quite what she wanted. The whole first verse is just about this boy that she thought she wanted, but then found wasn't really good for her, which I get. It's all too easy to think that a relationship is going to be good, or beneficial for you, and the exact opposite ends up happening, so verse one is doing pretty good for being able to understand, and making logical sense.

We move on to the chorus, this is where it just gets creepy/strange. So Carly just met this dude, admits that its crazy, BUT GIVES HIM HER NUMBER ANYWAY, oh and asks him to call, maybe. I have two problems with this already, one she is giving out her phone number to some guy she doesn't even know. He could be some sort of creep/predator, etc. Two she isn't really sure if she wants him to call her or not. Call me maybe, could you be more vague? I don't know about you, but if some strange girl, that I'd never met before, walked up to me, gave me her phone number, and said call me maybe, I'd be a little suspicious. Honestly if you really did like me and wanted to try and start a friendship why wouldn't you just say something like, I've really liked getting to know you, here's my number, call me so we can talk more. Throwing in a maybe just makes no sense, to me.
It's also creepy because we have Carly, and as sad as it is, young girls are probably looking up to her as a role model, and what is she telling our young girls? It's okay to give your phone number to strangers. With a phone number, even a cell phone, people can find out a lot about you, and there is this site, that has a lot of cellphone numbers, its called facebook, yep, even if you never gave them your number one of your "friends" probably did, and people can find you by those. Even with your information locked down as much as you can, they can still find something about you.

So we move on to verse two, which I don't know, really doesn't make any sense. I guess the guy took a while to give Carly a call, probably busy stalking her up online to see if she was a girl he wanted to take advantage of... Carly didn't give him anything, one good message in the song, but not highlighted nearly enough. Carly starts stealing things, for some reason not very clear from the song, and then goes back to the chorus which repeats twice before the song is over.

My walk away from this song is Carly is an insecure girl, who is just putting herself in a really bad place for something really bad to happen to her. How does music like this sell, and who writes it? It doesn't even make sense.
